Kato Verghote obtained a Master of Arts in Moral Sciences (Ghent University) in 2020. She is currently working on her PhD at the Department of Philosophy and Moral Sciences at Ghent University, which she initiated in January 2021. Her PhD is part of a larger project in association with the Institut für Bio- und Medizinethik (Institute for Biomedical Ethics) at the University of Basel and concerns the ethical challenges of family building at advanced parental age (40+). Kato’s main focus is on empirical ethics. She conducts interviews with three specific groups: 1) women who became mothers at or over 40, and who also had one or several children at least 10 years earlier (‘renewed’ older mothers), 2) young adults who differ 40 years or more in age with their parents, and 3) women who had an abortion at or over 40 for non-medical reasons.
